Closure of the Post Office Branch at
Rippingale Stores
Quentin Davies and Nick Boles visit Simon at Rippingale Stores - Saturday 13 October 2007
Some 250 Rippingale villagers waited in the rain on Saturday morning as Quentin Davies, MP for Grantham and Stamford, and his probable successor, Nick Boles, visited their threatened Post Office.
The two attended separately and both spoke privately to Sub-Postmaster Simon Deane, then to members of the anti-closure campaign group, and to customers and villagers.
Both were applauded as they said they would do all in their power to prevent the closure.
Mr Davies was due to meet a senior member of the Post Office management team to discuss closure plans. He answered questions from customers, including two on horseback, and said that he'd been impressed by the way the village was pulling together to keep their PO open - Rippingale was by far the most vociferous village fighting closure proposals in the constituency.
Mr. Boles, the new Tory PPC for Grantham and Stamford, said closing the PO would tear the heart out of Rippingale. He'd seen evidence of the damage such closures caused in his parents' village in Devon. He added that he would do his best to join a planned protest walk by Rippingale villagers the following Wednesday (17 October).
