Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee
2012 will mark the 60th year of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and the long weekend of 1st - 4th June has been officially designated for celebrations to mark her Diamond Jubilee.
Rippingale formed a steering committee in August 2011 and is planning a series of events leading up to and including the Jubilee weekend, all planned around the theme 'Fun and Friendship'.
Details will be published in the 'What's On' pages of the village website, but the provisional schedule is:

Sunday 18th March - the 1970's
Sunday 15th April - the 1980's

Walking Treasure Hunt - Friday 11th May, 7pm
The Jubilee walking Treasure Hunt is all set for the evening of Friday 11 May. Entry is £5:00 per team; each team may include up to six people.
Teams should arrive on the Village Green at 7:00, ready for the off, where they will given an envelope containing a set of clues, to which they will need to find the answers as they walk around the village. (There are several routes so you will not be walking en-masse!) The “Hunt” should take no more than 90 minutes.
Everyone ends up at the same venue, where there will be a barbecue (Food not included in the entrance fee) and a raffle while answer sheets are perused. Bring your own liquid refreshments – and glasses - to the Village Green with your bottles labelled with your name. (we’ll have spare labels in case you forget) While you are on the treasure hunt, your bottles will be transported to the barbecue venue.
The Bunting Babes |
Bunting Babes - There is an ambitious plan to hang the village with Bunting for the Jubilee weekend; the call went out in October for Bias tape, materials and volunteers. Two workshops were held before Christmas and they are now running fortnightly in the afternoon on Black Bin Monday!! If you can help with materials or would like to join in the workshops, phone Sheila Scholes on 440200 for more information. Click here to see more

We now have some very good jute bags! This season's must-have accessory is a very useful 40cm square bag with strong handles.

Commemorative Booklet
We will produce a commemorative booklet of Rippingale and the Jubilee weekend, to include a full programme of events and various articles about the recent history of Rippingale and it's residents during the Queen's reign. We already have some ideas but want to hear more ideas for inclusions from residents. We are keen to hear from residents with personal memories of the Queen's accession or the Coronation and also how it was celebrated in the village. If you would like to contribute to this, please call Jim Latham on 440025.
It is intended that the cost of producing the booklet will be met by local sponsorship and the sale of advertising space in the booklet. If you are interested in being a sponsor, or if you have contacts within local commercial businesses that might be interested in advertising in the booklet, we would be delighted to hear from you.
Permanent memorials to the Diamond Jubilee
We have already had a couple of excellent suggestions for permanent memorials to the Diamond Jubilee, one being a Sundial and the other, new gates for the entrance to the Jubilee Playing Field. Once again, we want to hear ideas from residents.
